How to read the chart

Each row shows a number of minutes and the same amount of time as a fraction of an hour. To convert a full time, add the decimal to the whole hours. For example, for 6 hours 38 minutes, find 38 in the chart (0.63) and add it to 6: 6.63 hours.

The chart is rounded to two decimal places, which is what most payroll systems use. For exact values, use the time to decimal calculator.

How the chart is calculated

Decimal = Minutes ÷ 60

There are 60 minutes in an hour, so every minute is 1/60 of an hour, or about 0.0167. Fifteen minutes is 15 ÷ 60 = 0.25, thirty minutes is 0.5, and forty-five minutes is 0.75.

Quarter-hour and tenth-of-an-hour charts

Many employers round time. These short charts show what each rounding method uses.
